The Buy Direct movement is a new dawn, one where authors can focus on building their own platforms. They can have direct contact with their readers with the added bonus of being paid straight away rather than months. (Did you know that Amazon's payment terms are 90 days? That's three months waiting to get paid!).
Big retailers also take a higher share of your money, sometimes up to 70% of the cost of the book, which leaves the author (who did all the work) with a very small slice of the pie.
Buying direct from content creators, like authors, means more of your hard earned money goes to supporting their work.
That said, authors still love the big stores--Amazon, for example, has boosted a lot of authors into the limelight—but it's getting very crowded out there on the cyber bookshelves! These days, it's even harder to get noticed, and now that online marketing has become a huge industry, independent authors struggle to keep up with the "pay to play" module that so many platforms and retailers have adopted.
So, rather than fueling a massive corporation, when you buy direct from an author, you're empowering that author's dream and making their day!

Yes, eventually! I'm working on it right now and hoping to start selling paperbacks (both in standard and large print) very, very soon!

This is something else I'm working on! None of my novels are currently available as audio books, but I do have plans to create them, although this isn't likely to be until 2026.

I know, I know! Having my books professionally edited in American English took some getting used to.
It's just the industry norm, really. Even Canadian and Australian authors have their books edited in American English if they want to sell books to the US romance market (which is HUGE, by the way). And I'm delighted to say that most of my readership is based in the US.
However, my characters always use phrases and words from whichever country they grew up in. I spend a lot of time making sure all readers, wherever they're from, can understand what my characters are saying, while still keeping their speech natural. Evie would never say "faucet", Helen would never say "sneakers". Sebastian says "apples and oranges" rather than "chalk and cheese" and as for Mikey... well, when that quite guy does say something, it wouldn't be "I could murder a cuppa tea."
